Scope and Contents

Contains approximately 550 glass plate and nitrate negatives and 50 35mm film strips of images taken by early 20th century Pleasant Grove citizen Alma Christiansen. Also includes corresponding black and white prints of these negatives, printed in 2021. Photograph subjects include Alma's family and neighbors, views of Pleasant Grove from his neighborhood, and Mt. Timpanogas and the surrrounding valley. Dated approximately 1912 to 1925. Also includes a photocopied bound volume of a family history, which includes Alma's photographs with corresponding captions and contextual narrative, dated 1985.

Biographical / Historical

Alma Christiansen was born April 10, 1876, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He married Matilda Anderson in 1902 and together they had three children, Mildred, Rhodin, and Malcolm. They also raised their neice, Ruby. In 1912, Alma purchased a Kodak Premo Camera, one of the best amateur cameras available at that time. He began taking and developing photographs in his own darkroom, mainly between 1912 to 1925. His photography subjects were of landscapes around his home, neighbors, family members, and Mt. Timpanagos and the surrounding valley.
