Biographical History
Darrel J. Monson (1923-1975) was an engineering professor and academic administrator in Utah.
Darrel James Monson was born on September 3, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Ferdinand Monson and Ivy Gertrude Hunsaker. Raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Monson was baptised in 1931. He completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at the University of Utah in 1943. He later completed a master's degree in electrical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 1952.
Monson worked as an engineer and taught at several universities before coming to Brigham Young University in 1956. There he taught courses in the Electrical Engineering Science Department, where he later served as chair. He then became the director of Communications Services for the university, and in 1973 was appointed Assistant Academic Vice President for Learning Resources. He also served as president and chairman of Tronac, Inc.
During his later years he was also involved in Church service. This included local callings, as well as appointments to the general boards of the Young Mens' Mutual Improvement Association (YMMIA) and Sunday School. He also served on the Church Library Coordinating Committee.
Monson married Anna Elizabeth Strickland in 1946, and they had seven children.
Darrel J. Monson passed away on December 2, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
