Biography
Alden Joseph Bennett (1847-1919) was a banker at the Hall and Bennett Banker Company.
Alden Joseph Bennett was born on June 25, 1847, in Harpersfield, New York, to Minerva Hakes and Phineas Lounsbury Bennett. He graduated from Franklin Engineering School in New York in the class of 1866 and worked on the Union Pacific Railroad until its completion in 1868. After that, he moved around and held a variety of jobs, from a miner, schoolteacher, and rancher to a manager at Harrington and Co. (later the Hall and Bennett Banking Company). On November 1, 1878, Alden married Mary Prout, and they had three children together. He was heavily involved in politics and ran for lieutenant governor and lost, but he later joined the Elks and Odd Fellows lodge, where he was exalted ruler, and was a member of the New York Society Sons of the Revolution. Alden J. Bennett died on February 13, 1919, in Virginia City, Montana, at the age of 71.
