Biographical History

Weldon J. Taylor (1908-2000) was a marketing professor and academic administrator in Utah. He was the dean emeritus of the College of Business at Brigham Young University.

Weldon Johnson Taylor was born on June 30, 1908 in Provo, Utah to William Weldon Taylor and Nora Johnson. Raised in Provo as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission to the Northern States between 1928 and 1931. After his return he attended Brigham Young University. He graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1934, then moved to Washington, D.C. to work as a statistician for the Federal Power Commission. In 1937 he completed his MBA at the Harvard Business School and then returned to Provo to join the business faculty at BYU. In 1952 he earned his PhD in Marketing from New York University.

Taylor remained at Brigham Young University for most of his career, and served as dean of the College of Business between 1959 and 1975. He took some time away from the university during World War II to work in the Price Administration, and taught a few summers at the University of South Dakota.

He married Eleanor Gayle DeWitt on November 5, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had two children.

Taylor was also an active member of his community and church. This included service as bishop of the Lakeview Ward in Provo.

Weldon J. Taylor passed away on August 21, 2000 in Provo, Utah.
