Biographical History

E. Lee Simmons (1888-1972) was a physical education supervisor in Utah.

Ezra Lee Simmons was a born on November 7, 1888 in Payson, Utah to Nathan Lee Simmons and Amy Daniels. He attended Brigham Young University High School, graduating in 1907. He the continued his studies at the university. In 1912 he returned to Payson, Utah where he taught school in Utah and Tooele counties.

In 1915 he married Neta Seabury in Salt Lake City, Utah. They eventually had three children.

Simmons and his family moved to Salt Lake City in 1921, when he began working in physical education at East High School alongside Ott Romney. During this time he completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Utah. In 1937 he was appointed as supervisor of physical education for the Salt Lake Board of Education. He completed a master's degree in Education at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Simmons retired from the school district in 1954. He passed away on January 30, 1972 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
