Biographical History

Mertyle Sharber Combs (1905-1996) was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and educator in Kentucky and Illinois.

Combs was born as Myrtle Lavina Argentina Sharber on September 26, 1905, in Christian County, Kentucky, to parents Jonathan McMahan and Lavinia Minter Manire Sharber. She married Bennie Goff Combs (1908-1967) on February 13, 1928, in Claqrksville, Tennessee. She recieved a teachers certificate from the Western Kentucky State Teachers College on June 1, 1934, and used it while teaching elementary school in Indiana. She finally graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the Pestalozzi Froebel Teachers College in Illinois on August 26, 1960, then continued teaching in Indiana and later in Kentucky. On February 7, 1939, in Crofton, Kentucky, Combs was baptised and confirmed as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was active in her local congregations for the rest of her life.

Combs died on August 14, 1996, in Kentucky.
