Biography

Oakley S. Evans (1913-1995) was a businessman of Salt Lake City, Utah, and president of the Tabernacle Choir from 1975 to 1984.

Oakley Spencer Evans was born May 14, 1913 in Springville, Utah to Shirl Osborne Evans and Blanche Oakley Evans. He married Mabel Wilson on September 13, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in business administration in 1935, and went on to work for the J.C. Penney Company for 37 years. He retired in 1972 as the Vice President and Director of Corporate Development. After retiring, Evans served as the president of ZCMI for ten years, as well as the president of the Tabernacle Choir from 1975 to 1984. Evans passed away March 21, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
