McBride was born in England, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his parents in 1856, and migrated to Utah. McBride writes about migrating to Utah in the ill-fated handcart company led by Edward Martin. He tells about the hardships he and his family faced. Mimeographed copy of a typewritten history. Watkins migrated to Utah in 1856 with the ill-fated Martin Handcart Company. He writes of an incident during the trek with that group. On a very cold night in Wyoming, Watkins and two others found, killed, and butchered an ox.
