Biographical / Historical

Josiah Rogerson (1841-1926) was a Mormon clerk, farmer, and justice of the peace in Utah.

Rogerson was born to William and Mary Harrison Rogerson January 27, 1841, in Preston, Lancashire, England. His family was converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837, but remained in England afterward. During his youth, Rogerson had a job reading to Ben Pitman, who was practicing shorthand, as well as doing office work for Thomas Cliff.

In 1856 his family emigrated to Utah, traveling with the Martin Handcart Company. He then settled in southern Utah, living in Parowan and Beaver. He made use of his shorthand skills working as a clerk for some time, but later turned to farming. He also served in elected office in Beaver County between the 1860s and 1880s.

Rogerson was married twice, to Ann Wignall in 1865 and to Isabel Wardrop in about 1866, and had a number of children. He passed away on March 15, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
