Administrative History

The Graduate Department of Education was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University.

The Graduate Department of Education was established in the College of Education in 1962, resulting from a merger of the departments of Educational Administration, Educational Philosophy and Programs, and Educational Research and Services. The unit was responsible for instruction in school administration, supervision, curriculum development, educational psychology, and associated fields. It offered graduate degrees at the master's and doctorate levels. Department chairmen included Keith R. Oakes (1962-1964), Robert L. Egbert (1964-1966), and Curtis Van Alfen (1968-1970). In 1970 the unit merged with the Department of Teacher Education to form the Department of Education.
