Biographical History

Robert L. Egbert (1923-2001) was an education professor and university administrator in Utah and Nebraska.

Robert L. Egbert was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Valview, Idaho. Raised in Idaho, he went to school in the Teton Valley and Idaho Falls. During the second World War, he served in the US Navy. Egbert attended Ricks College, Idaho State University, and Cornell University, where he earned a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. respectively. In 1945, he married Gretchen Johnson and together they had nine children. Egbert taught education at Utah State University, Brigham Young University, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. At Brigham Young University, he served as department chair of the Department of Educational Research and Services from 1955 to 1960 as well as chairman of the Graduate Department of Education from 1964 to 1966. He specialized in early childhood education and directed the national Office of Education's Follow Through Program from 1967-1971. Egbert passed away September 14, 2001 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
