Biography

The Lucy Gates Opera Company (1915-?) was a regional opera company based out of Utah.

Emma Lucy Gates Bowen, and brother B. Cecil Gates, first made plans to establish their own opera company in 1902. Their plans, however, did not come to fruition until 1915. Lucy worked as the artistic director and stage manager, as well as starrred in the main roles. Her brother was the music director and conductor. They performed some of the biggest operas throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The company ultimately only lasted a few seasons.
