Biography

The Dixie Cooperative Produce Association (1929-1932) was a mercantile co-op for LDS farmers in Washington county.

The Dixie Cooperative Produce Association was established in 1929 by Orval Hafen, John Nicholes, and Walter F. Smith. Hafen served as director for its entire lifespan. It operated primarily in the east end of Washington county and is most well-known for delivering twenty cars of Hurricane peaches to Salt Lake City. Other ventures include providing supplies and markets for farmers, educating farmers on agricultural techniques, and signing contracts for produce. While several produce districts were planned for participating farmers, the association struggled financially and appears to have dissolved in 1932.
