Holograph diary and typescript of the same item. Matheson lived in Cedar City, Utah and had business holdings in Parowan, Utah. The diary is largely concerned with accounts of the day's work activities at the sawmill which he apparently owned.

Handwritten lists of the amount of lumber produced at lumber mills in Big Cottonwood Canyon above Salt Lake City, Utah, and to whom it was sold. Some of the lumber was sold to Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church.

Collection consists of four Downing Investment Company ledgers covering the period between 1905 and 1912, with the exception of 1908. The ledgers document mining activities at a series of mines in Cripple Creek, Colorado and Goldfield, Nevada.

Handwritten list which states that "Cotton Duck" costs $.75 per yard. The item is undated but may have been created late in the 19th century. The author is unknown, and the note may relate to the cotton industry in Utah.
