Letter and a portrait, 1862
Handwritten and signed letter, dated 16 July 1862, composed in New York, and addressed to "Dear Sir." Brooks states, "Regretting your personal loss . . . [and] the greater loss of your deserving & prosperous city. I subscribe myself." Also included is a portrait of Brooks clipped from a magazine.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated 5 April 1792, and addressed to Reverend William Clarke and William Hayley, an English poet. Barlow writes about a poem he submitted to the two men to critique. Also included is anetching portrait of Barlow with a mechanically reproduced autograph.
Letter and a portrait, 1816-1836
Handritten letter dated 29 March [1836?]. The item is written in the third person and is addressed to "Mr. Holdsworth, Bookseller," concerning a pamphlet recently published by Bathurst. Also included is a photocopy of a portrait etching of Bathurst.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated 2 Jan. 1819, and addressed to "Dear Sir." The item relates to a business relationship between Bewick as an engraver and his correspondent as dealer. Also included is an etched portrait of Bewick and is dated Jan. 1829.

Handwritten and signe letter and dated 18 Oct. 1852. Boucicault writes, "Will you be kind enough to have a dozen copies of The Prima Donna struck off on better paper & preped." Also included are etching protraits of Dion and W. D. Bouicault dated 1851.

Photocopy of a handwritten and signed letter addressed to a Mrs. Owen. The date of the item is uncertain. Browning wishes Owen happiness in her recent marriage. Also included are photocopies of three etching portraits of Browning.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated 22 Aug. 1848, and addressed to "Madam Galmache" (?). Burritt writes that he is willing to meet with her when he next visits Paris. Also included is a pencil portrait of Buritt and one of Girardt (?).

Handwritten and signed letter, dated 10 Sept. 1895, and addressed to Alice Nelson, perhaps Alice Moore Dunbar-Nelson, an American author. Bates thanks Nelson for a favorable review of her work.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated 21 Sept. 1849, and addressed to N. F. More, possibly Nathaniel Fish More (1782-1872). Anthon expresses an opinion of a few lines of Latin poetry which are copied onto the letter.
