Typewritten and signed letter. Byrd writes to Melvin H. Schoberlin of Denver, Colorado, on 18 Aug. 1928 to inform him that he will not be able to carry a letter for Schoberlin on the upcoming "Byrd Antartic Expedition."

Handwritten and signed letter and typescript. The item was written in 1861 in the Nebraska Territory by Conger to his brother Levi in New York. Conger gives a brief description of his travel itinerary as well as making a plea to receive communications from family and friends.

Typewritten copies of personal diaries by Dame, kept from 1854 to 1855. Entries are short and mainly relate to Dame's various activities. Also included is the "Journal of Southern Exploring Company," an expedition led by Dame to areas of Iron County, Utah, to find suitable locations for Mormon settlements in 1858. Diary lists the members of the expedition. Dame describes the activities of the group including the surveying of lots and the planting of crops.
Alphonse B. Day diary
Handwritten account of Day's overland journey from the Missouri River to Oregon in 1849. Diary primarily focuses on travelling conditions: grass, water, and condition of horse and ox teams. A number of companions died from cholera and mountain fever. Day intended to travel to California, but "as I think its impossible to go to California with a team," headed to Oregon instead.
