Benning, Georgia, as an Army aviator before he was assigned to Vietnam in 1965. He served with the 197th Armed Helicopter Company and took over as a platoon commander. The item is about the battle between the Confederate cavalry under Jeb Stuart and the Union forces under George Armstrong Custer and David McMurtrie Gregg on 3 July 1863 approximately three miles east of where "Picket's Charge" was engaging the federals. The manuscript was submitted to the Old Army Press for publication.
