Glass plate negative of Billy Hofer and friend on freight wagons near Cinnabar, Montana, 1887
Similar to #6, but with more action.
(#6: Billy Hofer (driving) and unidentified friend, both on two freight wagons, being pulled by a six-horse team with two more horse tied behind. Background is near Cinnabar, Montana).
Hofer has apparently shaken his reins and the entire train is walking forward.
Glass plate negative of Billy Hofer eating a meal in his cabin in Cinnabar, Montana, 1887
Photo of Elwood T. "Uncle Billy" Hofer, in his cabin at Cinnabar (complete with cheesecake pictures on the wall) and eating a meal that makes this entire collection so important, and this image is probably the most important one in the collection, which will be used by Scott Herring in his upcoming (now complete) biography of Billy Hofer.. Identifiable in his meal are buiscuits, corn on the cob, and a bottle of booze.

Glass plate negative of family group on north bank of Yellowstone River near Cinnabar, Montana, 1887
At least eleven children and their woman chaperone are playing on large boulders on the north bank of Yellowstone River, near Cinnabar, Montana. The photo looks west toward the ridge of Electric Peak. They were outside of Yellowstone National Park then, but the opposite (south) bank of the river is, today, inside the park. At that time, the town of Cinnabar was located on the opposite bank and out of sight of the camera's vantage point.
Glass plate negative of family group on Yellowstone River, 1887
Glass plate negative of female dog on rear haunches, 1887
Female dog sitting upright on her rear haunches, and it is clear that she recently delivered a litter of puppies. My guess is that this was Billy Hofer's dog and that the photo was taken outside his cabin near Cinnabar, Montana.
Glass plate negative of Gardiner, Montana, 1885
Spectacular photograph of the western portion of Gardiner, Montana, about 1885 (when this first bridge over Yellowstone River was built), from south bank of Yellowstone River looking northeast to Oregon Mountain and Palmer Mountain. In those days, this was the only bridge to allow Gardiner residents access to the north side of the river and a road that even then traveled northeast to the prospecting diggings of Bear Gulch, an 1865 gold strike that became Jardine, Montana in 1898.
