The item is addressed to Philip II and requests his signature of approval for the execution of two men condemned for conspiring against the king and the Church. The names of the men are Francisco de Cordoba and Leonardo Sorbieca.

Hawley who was implicated in an "Episode of a Pay Roll Robbery and a Double Hanging in Gila County in the Autumn of 1880." An article in the "Arizona Republican" on 19 April 1922 stated that Hawley was a Mormon. A letter written by A. W.
