Leland I. Selvey papers
Contains materials pertaining to the life of Leland Ira Selvey, particularly in relation to his time serving in France during World War I. Included are souvenirs from France, such as guidebooks, a single feather, postcards, and printed ephemera. Also includes handwritten letters from family and friends, scrapbooks, notebooks, diaries, and 259 photographs and negatives. Dated 1905-1927, with the bulk dated 1918-1919.
Frederick William Seward autobiography
Typewritten excerpt taken from a "memo of his life and selections from his letters 1861-1872." Seward writes about coming to Utah by train and describes what he saw in Salt Lake City. He met the president of the Mormon Church, Brigham Young (1801-1877), and relates what Young said about Mormon polygamy.
Sfondrati family papers
Contains legal documents, land records, and family papers related to the Sfondrati and associated families in northern Italy. The papers primarily deal with the heraldry and land holdings of the family in the region. Notes and other materials by later researchers in the collection are also included. The materials date from between 1494 and approximately 1900.
Sfondrati family papers regarding Guadalcanal
Contains handwritten and printed items relating to the administration of the fiefdom of Guadalcanal. Includes information on the assignment of the area to Ercole Sfondrati, as well as its later administration. The materials also document the conflict between Sfondrati and Gaspar Alfonso Perez de Guzman over its control. Documents date from between 1599 and 1659.
Paolo Sfondrati correspondence
Contains letters written and received by Sfondrati during his service as ambassador to the Duke of Savoy. Among his correspondents were Carlo d'Aragona Tagliavia, governor of Milan, and François de Vergy, governor of Burgundy. Materials focus on relationship between Spanish holdings and Savoy, and date from between 1581 and 1584.
Philip Henry Sheridan letters
Handwritten and signed letters all written in May, June, and July of 1876 and sent from Chicago, Illinois. Six of the items were written to Wesley Merritt who was with the 9th cavalry and later commanded the 5th cavalry. Sheridan gives orders and suggestions relating to the campaign against the Indians.
