Scope and Contents Collection of materials assembled by John R. Christiansen on his ancestors. Most of the materials concern Bishop Robert Lewis Johnson or the John Evans Rees family, of which Christiansen is a direct descendant. The Church of Jesus Christ (Strangites) was established by James Jesse Strang in 1844, though they claim to be the successor of the Mormon Church founded in 1830.

Compilation of typescripts of correspondence of James J. Strang, Wingfield Watson and other Strangites; biographical sketches and doctrinal outlines. Many items have more than one letter per typescript page.

Circular to the citizens of Utah

Printed circular. The item explains that it is necessary to set prices on grain in Utah to assure that all are fed and that the farmers get a fair price. It calls for a meeting in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on the "second Monday in August next" to determine the prices of wheat and other produce. On the other side of the item, the federal "Gold Act" is reproduced with a negative comment on the law's value.

Henry Clay correspondence with William Pettes

Handwritten and signed letters between Clay and William Petters. On Aug. 24, 1845 Pettes wrote to Clay apologizing for the rude conduct of a driver in Pettes' employment. Clay responded in a letter dated Aug. 27, 1845 stating that the matter was of little importance and requesting that the driver not be discharged over the incident.

Leonida Clint letters

The collection includes two ALS's from Clint at Brampton-Brian to "Sir" Richard Thurgate in which he discusses the purchase of T.J. Hogg's book, Life of P.B. Shelley, volumes 1 and 2. Includes remarks concerning Clint's acquisition of the volumes from his sister and her acquaintance with Mrs. Hogg.
