Typewritten book draft with handwritten corrections. Butler and his wife took a bet to ride on horseback from the Canadian-North Dakota border to the town of Deadwood, South Dakota in twenty days. They actually started near Winnipeg, Canada and rode 1,550 miles to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 92 days. The item was submitted to the Old Army Press for publication.

Diary of an overland journey from Independence, Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1845. Also included is a letter from J. X. Aubry to Alvarez acknowledging receipt of his power of attorney and a list of the distances between camp sites on the route from Fort Leavenworth to Santa Fe.
T. B. Miller letters
Handwritten letters plus memorabilia glued into a bound book. The collection consists of a series of letters from Miller to Sir Walter Gilbey of London describing an extensive tour of North American from 5 May to 29 July 1876. Miller was joined by the American journalist, F. B. Thurber. Miller describes majory cities, Ute Indians, a visit with Colorado's governor, William Gelpin, and other aspects of the American West.
Overland diary to the Pacific
Incomplete, handwritten account of an overland passage to California by an unknown author. The diary begins 219 miles east of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and documents the wagon journey to Fort Laramie, Wyoming, along the Oregon Trail. Described are landscape, wildlife, wagon train procedures, and Mormon settlements.

Handwritten records dated 1858 and 1859. These records include information of a company of emigrants from Nebraska City, Nebraska to Genoa, Utah and from Camp Floyd, Utah to Carson Valley, Nevada. Included are accounts of the travels, articles of incorporation, and notes on the meetings of the company. Also included are bound photocopies of the documents.
