He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Utah by handcart. He later settled in American Fork, Utah. Timpson also writes about members of Johnson's family whom she can remember.

Handwritten diary kept during his service as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway. Tells of his everyday life, missionary work, and transfers. Back of the diary includes a hand copy of a letter written by Leroy's father, N. S. Larsen, detailing his migration from Denmark to Salt Lake City, Utah, with the latter's brother, Hans.
