Also included is a pamphlet by Charles Brent Hancock in which he recounts his life in Payson, Utah, including encounters with Ute Indians and numerous poems and songs written by family members.
Uintah's Story
Photocopy of a typewritten history of Uintah County, Utah. The material was compiled by Phillips from "fourth grade students & others" in the Uintah School District. The materials commemorate the centennial of the settlement of Utah by whites. Also included is a letter from O. H. Lipps telling about the Indian school at Whiterocks, Utah.
The Ute
Five typed newsletters of the Uintah and Ouray Indian agency from 1937 to 1941. The newsletters discuss various plans, policies, opportunities, and events of the agency.
Edward W. Wynkoop letter
Handwritten and signed letter, dated 13 Aug. 1863, and addressed to Colonel John M. Chivington. Wynkoop writes from Camp Weld near Denver, Colorado concerning his scouting expedition on the heardwaters of the Bear, White, and Snake Rivers searching for Ute Indians after an attack on Fort Halleck on 7 July 1863. Also included is a hand-drawn map showing the locations of military posts in Colorado and the nearby areas.
