Madoline Cloward Dixon papers

Handwritten research papers composed by Dixon's students. The papers were written by her students after interviewing persons who settled in and around Payson. Also included are essays by Aurora Wilson relating to Payson, copies of handwritten newspapers called "The Philomatheon Literary Gazette," and a record of hours spend by various persons to build the wall around Payson in 1855.

Typewritten and signed letters, published articles, and newspaper clippings. Most of the letters were written to A. B. MacDonald of Kansas City, Missouri. Olive Dixon writes to MacDonald about the career of her husband, Billy Dixon, who was famous for fighting against Native Americans. Billy is noted for participating in the Battle of Adobe Walls in 1874. Some of the articles and newspaper clippings are by various authors but all deal with Billy Dixon's various activities.

Scope and Contents Includes research materials collected by Donald Q. Cannon that relate to the city of Nauvoo, Illinois. Nauvoo was founded in 1839 in the area previously known as Commerce, Illinois, by members of the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints. The city served as the center of the Church until 1846, when the main body of Church members left the city due to hostility from the locals. Many important Church events occurred in Nauvoo, including the building of the Nauvoo Temple in 1841. Dated...
