Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript. The item is an autobiography of William Atkin "A Youth's Experience taken from the Union printed in 1896." William Atkin was born in England on 27 March 1835 and joined the Mormon Church in 1852. He migrated to the United States in 1855 and moved to Florence, Nebraska. He came to Utah in a handcart company and commented on the inexperience of the people in his group. He arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 10 November 1859.

Scope and Contents Mormon hymn books, musical scores, newspaper clippings, a short autobiography, a biography, and letters. Also included is a photostat copy of a handwritten list of passangers on the William Tapscott in 1859. The Mormons on the ship later formed the George Rowley handcart company which emigrated to Utah in 1859. Also included is a typescript of a diary by an unnamed person describing the journey to Utah with the Rowley company. This is transcription from the Journal History of the Church...

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. This copy is very dark and difficult to read. Margaret Cunningham Binnall was born in 1845 in Scotland. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Utah in 1856 with the ill-fated Willie handcart company. She settled in American Fork, Utah, and died in 1921.

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. "Dates and historical events arranged and collected by Olive Dunn Binnall, a Grand-daughter---October 6, 1930." Kelley was born in Scotland in 1843, came to the United States in 1856, and migrated to Utah with the Willie handcart company. Kelly suffered many hardships before the company reached Salt Lake City, Utah. She died in 1922.

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Mary Stoddard was born in England in 1845 and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1852. She migrated to Utah in 1856 with the Edward Ellsworth handcart company. She settled in American Fork, Utah, and married Stephen Mott in 1862. She died in 1916.

They tried to migrate to Utah by handcart in 1857 but could not make the entire journey. They stayed near Council Bluffs, Iowa, for four years and came to Utah in 1861. Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. George Rowley was born in 1827 in England and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1847. Ann Brown was born in 1828 in England and joined the same church in 1844. He came to Utah in 1855 but returned to England in 1857, going east with a handcart company. He returned to Utah in 1859 with his family and settled in American Fork. Ann died in 1905, and George died in 1908.

She married James Boyonton Shelley in 1856 and lived in American Fork, Utah. She wrote poetry and died in 1884.
