This document contains a deposition testimony of Patrick J. Higgins given before Judge Carter in the case of the People of Utah vs. Jos. Pendergrass, McIntosh, Harvey Riley, and Thomas Maloney regarding the killing of one Samuel Bennett in Echo Canyon while enroute from Camp Floyd. No date was given for the crime.

Scope and Contents

Handwritten autobiography, will, and testimony to the veracity of the Mormon Church. Also included are photocopies and typescripts of these items. Leany was a convert to the Mormon Church who moved to Missouri in 1836. He was present at the Haun's Mill Massacre. He moved to Nauvoo, Illinois and later migrated to Utah living in Parowan and Harrisburg.

Microfilmed copies of original joint legislative committee journals (1838-1839), legislative proceedings (1838-1841), correspondence and orders (1838-1839), evidence given at the court of inquiry held in November 1838 to investigate Joseph Smith (1805-1844) and others for high treason, and certificates dealing with indictments against Mormons (1841) pertaining to the Mormon disturbances in Missouri (1838-1841). The film is 16 mm. and 35 mm. and is photonegative.
