Alma O. Taylor diaries

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diaries and two folders of correspondence and newspaper clippings. Taylor was called to serve on a mission to Japan for the Mormon Church in 1901. He presided over the Japan Mission from 1905 to 1910. A few diary entries were made between 1911 and 1946. Also included are correspondence relating to the mission and newspaper clippings about the work of translating the Book of Mormon into Japanese.

Typewritten copy of a speech delivered on 27 Nov. 1927 in the Tabernacle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. Taylor states that the real nature of God is not discoverable by any conventional means but can only be known through revelation.

This collection consists of an autobiographical sketch by Taylor, a photoduplicated copy of the "Book of Remembrance" for the "Granite Stake of Zion," and photocopies of Taylor's newspaper obituary. The personal history is short and outlines the author's life from birth to the year 1905. It includes the blessing given to him as a baby and several patriarchal blessings he received.

Memoir of Jedediah Taylor, circa 1896, is one volume, binding torn, holograph. Includes account of early life, priesthood blessings, attendence at LDS College, coming of Utah Statehood in 1896, mission call to the Southern States Mission. The account ends with his preparation to leave on his mission.
