The item includes handwritten corrections. Coverson was a child when her mother died, and she was raised in the plantation house. She describes the Union Army briefly, talks about the Ku Klux Klan, and gives thanks for her freedom.

The item includes handwritten corrections. Baker was freed after the Civil War, but he continued to be forced to work, and he was treated very poorly. His mother was sold in the middle of the night. He describes severe beatings and being reunited with his mother.
