Biography of William Rufus Rogers Stowell

Abstract

Includes typewritten and handwritten biographies of William Rufus Rogers Stowell. Also included are typed excerpts from the biography and photocopies of an account of Stowell's death handwritten by his grandson, Earl Stowell. William Stowell was a convert to the Mormon Church. He lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1852, served in the Utah Militia during the Utah Expedition, served on missions for the Mormon Church, and went to Mexico to avoid prosecution for polygamy.

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of a typewritten autobiography. Cazier was born in Ordham County, Kentucky. His family moved to Illinois in 1841 where he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1845. He later moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1850. He settled at Nephi, Utah, in 1851 and later married polygamously. Cazier also writes about his family life.

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed family history and autobiography. Tanner writes about her family joining the Mormon Church, its migration to Nauvoo, Illinois, and its eventual arrival in Utah. She also mentions her marriage in a polygamous relationship and her life in Payson, Utah.

John Murdock autobiography and diary

Scope and Contents

Typescripts of a diary and an abridgement of diaries for the years from 1830 to 1859 and 1832. Murdock joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1830 and lived in Kirtland, Ohio; Missouri; Nauvoo, Illinois; and Salt Lake City, Utah. He had numerous assignments for the Church and migrated to Utah in 1847. He participated in Zion's Camp in 1834 and went on a mission to Australia from 1852 to 1853.

Job Smith autobiography and letters received

Typewritten autobiography and photocopies of handwritten letters received by Smith. Also included are typescripts of Job Smith's "Recollections" of the first president of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith (1805-1844), and photocopies of handwritten and typewritten certificates. The letters are from prminent Mormon Church leaders. Also included is a photocopy of a handwritten patriarchal blessing received by Smith.

Laura Ann Keeler Thurber autobiography

Scope and Contents Handwritten autobiography which has been encapsulated and bound. The item starts with Thurber's biographies of her father, James Keeler, and her mother, Eliza Shelton Keeler. James Keeler's account was copied from his autobiography and diary. Laura lived in Santaquin, Goshen, and Richfield, Utah, and in Grass Valley, Nevada. Margaret Pierce Whitesides Young autobiography

Photocopy of a typescript. Originally written to be read at a 1903 meeting of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Mrs. Young describes her life in Nauvoo and her early years in Salt Lake City, Utah. She also comments on life as a polygamous wife of Brigham Young.
