Biography of John Olney Adams (native pioneer) and his wife, Mattie Marie Peterson

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. John Olney Adams was born in American Fork, Utah, in 1861 and Mattie Marie Peterson was born in 1864 in Denmark. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Utah. They married in 1884. John died in 1932 in Bingham, Utah, and Mattie died in 1928.

A biography of Alexander Williams

Scope and Contents

Typewritten biography. The year of the composition of the item is unknown. Kimball writes that Williams was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1847, had encounters with the Ute Indians, lived as a polygamist, and converted to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Biography of Nathan Staker

Scope and Contents

Two typewritten biographies of Nathan Staker with photocopies of the same items. Sanderson wrote the biography of Staker with William Marchant Staker and Sarah Ellis Halley Pearson. The authors are grandchildren of Nathan Staker. Also included is a "History of Nathan Staker." Staker was from Canada. He joined the Mormon Church, migrated to Utah in 1852, married two women, and was a farmer in Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

Biography of William Rufus Rogers Stowell

Abstract

Includes typewritten and handwritten biographies of William Rufus Rogers Stowell. Also included are typed excerpts from the biography and photocopies of an account of Stowell's death handwritten by his grandson, Earl Stowell. William Stowell was a convert to the Mormon Church. He lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1852, served in the Utah Militia during the Utah Expedition, served on missions for the Mormon Church, and went to Mexico to avoid prosecution for polygamy.

He migrated to the United States in 1849 and came to Utah in 1851. He settled first in Salt Lake City, Utah, where his wife died in child birth. Weight married Mary Milnes. Typewritten biography. Also included is a typewritten poem by Johnson. William Carter was a Mormon who lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1847, and lived in Salt Lake City and later in St. George, Utah. He was a polygamist who spent time in the Utah penitentiary for bigamy.

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Sarah Ann Piling Mayne Cooper was born in England in 1821 and died in West Jordan, Utah, in 1880. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Utah. She married George Mayne and Frank Cooper.

Cordelia Cox writes about Emeline Whiting Cox, Emma Peterson Cox, Jemima Losee Cox, Lydia Losee Cox, Frederick Walter Cox, and Isaac Morley. Also included is Cordelia Cox's testimony to the truthfullness of the Mormon faith. She also writes about her experiences as a plural wife of Frederick Cox.
