Describes being captured by the Japanese in the Philippines during World War II, the Bataan Death March, and his three and one-third years as a prisoner of war in the Philippines and Japan. Also included are two photographs of Poole in his military uniform and a note stating that his son later served in Japan as a missionary for the Mormon Church. Also on microfilm.
Clyde E. Weeks interview
Typescipt of an interview taken from the included audiocassette. The interview as conducted by Richard Weeks on 3 Feb. 1985. Clyde E. Weeks talks about his youth and about his decision to join the Marine Corps at age 17. He describes his training and his experiences in combat while attacking three different islands in the Pacific. One of the islands was Guam.
Lincoln R. Whitaker interview
Typescript of an interview taken from the included sound tapes. The interview was conducted by Frank Whitaker on 3 March 1985 for Ray Hillam's War Project. Lincoln Whitaker was from Ogden, Utah, and was drafted into the United States Army in January 1944. He landed in Normandy, France, about 25 days after D-Day. He first saw action in Gilenchirchen, Germany, and describes his many combat experiences.
Albert Winkler interview with J. Murray Rawson
Typescript of an interview taken from the included cassette tape. Albert Winkler interviewed Rawson on 14 Oct. 1999 at his home in Orem, Utah, for the office of Special Collections at Brigham Young University. Rawson tells about his experiences during the battle of Iwo Jima. He says that his faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was essential to his survival.
