Maeser Elementary School collection

Abstract

This collection comprises much of the history of Maeser Elementary School, from its foundation in 1898 up through about 1996, six years before it closed. Included in the collection are histories, newspaper clippings, photographs, artifacts from the school, movie reels, and some school files. Scrapbook of newspaper clippings of biographies of various residents of Grantsville, Utah, one of which is dated 1936. Also included is a brief, handwritten history of Grantsville describing history up to 1956, and a program for the dedication of the post office in Grantsville in 1962 at which James Parkinson gave the benediction. Collection dated approximately 1936 to 1962.

Scope and Contents

Photocopied photographs of old buidings in Tooele, Utah. Also included are materials relating to Tooele High School. They include: "Tooele High School Songs" and "The Development of our High School" by Marguerite Rice and Elise England Easterman. Rice and Easterman were members of the class of 1914, the first class to graduate from Tooele High School. Also with the collection is a photocopy of a newspaper article describing how Tooele High School got its mascot of a white buffalo.

Silas LeRoy Richards diary and family histories

Scope and Contents

Handwritten autobiography and diary, family histories, genealogies, patriarchal blessings, and mementos. Much of the material relates to the history and genealogies of the Richards, Rhead (Reed), Stanley, and Huffman (Hoffman) families. Silas was born in Union and later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He held several jobs and served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission from 1902 to 1905.
