Scope and Contents

The docket book contains information regarding the decisions and actions during George Ranney's tenure as justice of the peace in Kirtland, Ohio. As justice of the peace, Ranney describes cases of dispute in Lake County, Ohio, and though he does not make any direct references to Mormons, several individuals involved in legal cases have some affiliation with the Mormon Church. This includes Frederick G. Williams, John E. Page, Benjamin Johnson, William Smith, and numerous Cowderys and Grangers. There are also occasional references back to the Oliver Cowdery and Warren A. Cowdery just of the peace docket books.
