Handwritten and signed letter dated 8 Oct. 1826 and addressed to Thomas Armstrong of Wolcott, New York. Whitney offers an apology for neglecting to run an ad for Armstrong in his newspaper, the Lyons Advertiser.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas Armstrong Jr. (1785-1867) was a settler and American politician from New York.
Thomas Armstrong Jr. was born on November 13, 1785 in Stillwater, New York to parents Thomas Armstrong and Lettie Armstrong. Sometime after the American Revolutionary War, his family moved to Wolcott, Wayne County, New York, among the pioneer settlers of the area. He went on to marry Samantha Bibbins in 1813, in Stillwater, New York, with whom he had 12 children. Armstrong Jr. was a politician by profession and served in many different offices in his lifetime, including supervisor of the Town of Butler, representative in the New York State Assembly (1818-1820), New York State Senate (1830-1837), sheriff of Seneca County (1821-1822), and sheriff of Wayne County (1823-1825). He was also involved in real estate and other business pursuits. Armstrong Jr. passed away on January 2, 1867 in Butler, New York.
