Scope and Contents
Contains a phrenological report for Jesse N. Smith given by O. S. Fowler, dated 1872; a two-page manuscript by Mark Ardeth Dalton relating how he learned of the connection between his grandfather, Jesse N. Smith, and Heber J. Grant, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1918 to 1945, dated 1935; two copies of The Kinsman (vol. 29 no. 3-4) with stories relating to the other materials in the collection, dated 1975.

Biographical / Historical
Mark Ardath Dalton was born on April 26, 1897, in Manassa, Colorado, to John Cranmer Dalton and Hannah Daphne Smith. He was a grandson of Jesse Nathaniel Smith. Dalton married Arema Goodwin on June 6, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dalton served in the United States Navy during World War II. He and his family lived in California, where Dalton worked as a medical doctor. Dalton died on November 10, 1971, in Long Beach, California, at the age of 74.
