Transcribed journals titled, "The Missionary Journals of Edward Daniel Harris: New Zealand 1917-1920," transcribed and edited by Mark F. Harris, son of Edward Harris, in 2005. Edward Harris served in the New Zealand mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1917 to 1920. The transcription includes photocopies of photographs, certificates, a map, indexes of people mentioned in the journals, and a life sketch of Edward Daniel Harris.

Biographical / Historical

Edward Daniel Harris was born on September 19, 1894, in Beaver, Utah, to Daniel Duane Harris and Frances Elizabeth Tolton. He married Maria Corina Forster on December 23, 1921, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Edward served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand from 1917 to 1920. He married Cora Forster in 1921, and they settled in Delta, Utah, where Edward became a teacher at Delta Elementary School. Edward later became a school principal, carpenter, and farmer in Delta, Utah. He received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1946. Edward died on October 27, 1980, in Delta, Utah.

Biographical / Historical

Mark F. Harris was born in 1931. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand from 1954 to 1956. His father, Edward Daniel Harris, also served a mission in New Zealand. Mark taught high school biology and photography in California for thirty years. After retiring in 1995, he and his wife, Luree, taught English in China and served a mission in Serbia. Mark published "A Distant Place" and "The Missionary Journals of Edward Daniel Harris," in 2006. As of 2006, Mark was a resident of Cameron Park, California.
