Thomas Durham autobiography and diary
Scope and Contents
Typewritten copy of an autobiography and diary. Durham wrote his autobiography in 1854 and started his diary the same year. The journal is sketchy in many places and has many gaps. Durham wrote about his youth in England, his conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his mission in England, his spiritual manifestations, blessings, and his migration to Utah. He left Florence, Nebraska, on 23 Aug. 1856 and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 30 Nov. 1856. He apparently traveled in one of the ill-fated handcart companies that got caught in the snows in Wyoming. Durham writes about the hardships he faced during the ordeal.
