Scope and Contents
Personal and family papers of Achsa Eggertsen Paxman, including diaries, notebooks, letters, photographs, speeches, poetry, and ephemera. Also contains Paxman and Eggertson family papers, particularly related to funerals and memorials of various people, as well as family histories and genealogies, and the Latter-day Saint mission papers of William Monroe Paxman to New Zealand. Materials dated 1859 to 1975.

Biographical / Historical
Achsa Henrietta Eggertsen Paxman was born on June 28, 1885, in Provo, Utah to Simon Peter Eggertsen Jr. and Henrietta Petrea Nielsen. After attending Provo City schools and Brigham Young Academy, she taught at elementary and high schools until her marriage to William Monroe Paxman on June 17, 1908, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of Elaine Paxman Handley, William Rulon Paxman, Beth Paxman Pulley, Monroe Junior Paxman, and Doressa Paxman Child. Achsa Paxman was active in politics and served two terms as a member of the Utah House of Representatives in 1925 and 1927. In addition, she was president of the State League of Women Voters, the Women's Republican Club, and the Utah State Relief Society and was a member of the Utah Valley Hospital board and the Utah County Welfare Board. Throughout her life she was highly involved in her community and church, giving speeches and publishing articles frequently. She died on August 8, 1968, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 83.
