William A. Carter journal, 1857-1859
Scope and Contents note
The typescript copy of Judge Carter's overland journal detailed his journey West with the army of Colonel Albert Sidney Johnston between 1857 and 1859. Copies of occasional outgoing letters are interspersed with journal entries. This typescript was almost certainly prepared by R.S. Ellison's secretary, working from the original diary which had been loaned to Ellison by Judge Carter's son.
