Caption on item: "Wire-drawing machines are kept busy producing wire for the West at the Pittsburg, California, Plant of Columbia Steel Company, a United States Steel Corporation subsidiary. An operator, Urtie Page, is shown making a micrometer inspection of wire as it emerges from a wire-drawing machine in the Wire Mill. Modern wire-drawing machines at the Pittsburg Plant can draw wire continuously through as many as 12 dies in one continuous operation."
