General note
Caption on item: "This new $1,038,000 steel and concrete overpass will break a traffic bottle-neck in downtown Montpelier, Ida., when it is completed early this fall. The 720-foot structure will carry US-89 and Washington Street traffic on a 30-foot road-way over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and over 12th Street. There also will be a 300-foot pedestrian walkway on the south side of the overpass. The steel girders supporting the roadway are U-shaped sections of unusual design. They measure nine feet at the top, and seven feet four inches at the bottom with sides three feet six inches high. They are designed to carry heat to prevent snow and ice accumulation on the roadway. The contractor for the bridge is Neilson and Miller of Twin Falls. The steel, the Geneva Works at Provo, Utah, was fabricated by Fought & Co., at their Pocatello plant. Work on the overpass was started last September."
