Scope and Contents note

David W. Seegmiller diary, circa 1916–1926, including photographs, birth certificates, and other important papers. In this diary David gives some of his genealogy, dating back as early as 1770 at the birth of his great, great grandfather John Walter Griffiths. He describes his ancestor's journey to Utah following their conversion to the "Mormon" church. Throughout this narrative he describes their musical and theatrical talent as he is trying to connect his love of musical prowess with that of his ancestors. He then describes his parents prior to mentioning his birth on September 23, 1916. Also included are a four generation pedigree chart, a family group sheet for his immediate family, and a Segmüller family crest. He then describes events that occurred in his early life, like the birth of his sister Marie in 1919. Also, he comments on the level of technology at the time by mentioning ice boxes and the lack of gas or electric appliances and the primitive nature of automobiles. Another significant event mentioned was his baptism into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 27, 1925. Throughout this diary he also mentions important dates in the life of his future wife Lilia Smith.
