Edward M. Hayhurst letters, 1863 November-December
Scope and Contents
Contains fifteen letters from Edward Hayhurst to his father or "Our Folks," his brothers (Joseph or Willie), or his mother during November and December 1863. The letters were written while in Chattanooga, Tennessee (in camp, on picket reserve, or on a skirmish line), or on the move over/through Missionary Ridge, Knoxville, and the Clinch Mountain area of Tennessee. During these two months, the only notable event was a battle the day before Thanksgiving in which the 124th, as part of the Cumberland Army, captured Missionary Ridge and Lookout Mountain from the Confederates.
