Abraham H. Cannon diary volume 9, 1887-1888
Scope and Contents
Abraham conducts Church business by organizing stakes and setting people apart. President John Taylor dies and Wilford Woodruff becomes the next president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Abraham's children suffer various illnesses, including diphtheria and scarlet fever. Their family faces further complications due to their continued practice of polygamy. There is continued family controversy regarding the affair of John Q. Cannon, who gets rebaptized as a member of the Church. Abraham's third wife Mary has a baby. Abraham also describes the happenings of his office, his family, the theatre, and baseball. He is once again arrested for unlawful cohabitation but avoids imprisonment due to lack of evidence. His daughter Emily dies of scarlet fever. Frank Cannon meets with President Grover Cleveland to discuss the plight of the members of the Church in Utah. The Manti Temple is dedicated. Abraham's wife Mina has a baby girl and his wife Sarah has a baby boy. Dated 1887 to 1888.
