John Arthur Taylor research collection on Nauvoo Temple angel
Content Description
Materials include correspondence, newspaper clippings, articles, photographs, and other information collected or created by Taylor in his research on an angel that was placed atop the Salem Evangelical Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, that resembled that of the one placed on the original Nauvoo Temple, being vertical, holding a trumpet and having wings. Taylor became interested in the object while serving as a stake president in Cincinnati in the 1960s, and documented its origins and history. The angel reportedly originated from a German group in Nauvoo in the 1840s. Records in the collection are dated approximately 1961-2016.
