Scope and Contents
The Ellis Schuman collection (1969-2006) include personal correspondence, Schuman's published works, both original works and arrangments for harp. Contains CD recorded interviews of Schuman, Alberto Salvi, Marie Ludwig, and Alice Chalifoux. The collection also includes autographed photos of Marie Ludwig and Mildred Dilling, as well as photographs of Schuman and other prominent harpists. The collection contains the papers of Ellis Schuman from his years as President of the Chicago Chapter of the American Harp Society and his years as a teacher the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt Univeristy.

Biographical History
Ellis Schuman (born 1931) is a performing artist, composer, and teacher.
Schuman was born in Chicago in 1931 and studied with prominent instructors such as Rudolph Ganz, Karel Boreslav Jirak, Mildred Dilling, Marie Ludwig Giordano, and Hans Tischler. He performed on piano and harp with Chicago's Musica Viva Quintet, and toured with the Baroque Repertory Ensemble as harpsichordist.
From 1969 to 1977 Schuman was president of the Chicago chapter of the American Harp Society. On the faculty of Chicago's Roosevelt University from 1981 to 1984, and taught harp, piano, and composition from 1985 forward at the Music Center of San Francisco.
Many of Schuman's compositions and arrangements for harp have been published by Lyon and Healy and International Music Publications, and are widely performed.
