Diary given to her by Helen H. Shields [Bessie K. Shields’ daughter]; highlights include: living in Kane with her family; family owns a hotel in Kane; 17 December 1879—TLK dined and went to church with Grant; 4 February 1880—TLK not elected delegate; involved in photography; 11 March 1881— newspaper clipping attached to this page, advertisement for a play “Cinderella at School” they saw at Daly’s Theatre in New York; 16 March 1881—program for Benevolent Order of Buffaloes and advertisement for opera “Billee Taylor” pasted in; 11 July 1881— TLK’s “grand coup,” he took possession of his old railroad line; 4 October 1881—Capt. Harris told them of “the decision,” TLK, Harris & Pugsley were “shut up till dark;” 6 October 1881—day of TLK’s “great fight;” 13 October 1881—starting at the Women’s Medical College; drawings in the margins on several pages; 7 January 1882—pasted article from The Times, on Alida Constable’s will (she left TLK her house), dated 8 January 1882; 25 February 1882—George William Curtis told TLK about Thackary wanting to meet Elisha (Arctic explorer); program for graduation exercises of Women’s Medical College on 16 March 1882 pasted in between pages with 9 & 12 March 1882 entries; article from Philadelphia Times, “Doctors in Dimity,” on women doctors, 14 May 1882, attached to page with 13 May 1882 entry; after 10 June 1882—lists and describes all of her classmates at the college in alphabetical order (22 numbered pp.), including Emma Atkin, a Mormon from Tooele, UT (p. 1), Jane Addams from Cedarville, IL (dropped out after 1 term), (p. 2), and Margaret C. Shipp, from Salt Lake City, (p. 19); at end of book (after 10 July 1882 entry), prescription from Dr. Freeman and “Pennsylvania Archives Committee of Safety,” deals with George Gray.
