Edward M. Hayhurst letters, 1863 September
Scope and Contents
Contains nine letters written by Edward Hayhurst to his father, mother, brother Joseph, or brother Thomas during September 1863. The letters were written while Hayhurst's unit traveled from the Tennessee River area down to Chickamauga (Georgia) and back up to a temporary camp in Chattanooga, Tennessee. During September, the 124th Ohio participated in many skirmishes while in the Chattanooga area, as well as a battle near Chickamauga (during which Hayhurst was only hit by a spent ball that ricocheted off a tree and came out unharmed), and on the 21st commenced the Chattanooga campaign.
