Scope and Contents

Handwritten diary of John covering his life from February 1856-May 1885. Parts of the diary are nearly daily entries, and parts are summaries of months or years of time. An autobiography of John up to 1856 is included in the first pages of this volume. Contents of the remainder of the volume include descriptions of John's mission to Wales from 1856-1859, his marriage to Mary Wride in 1860, migration to Utah in 1861, experiences settling in Provo and serving in a bishopric, stake Sunday School superintendent, and the Utah Stake presidency. Also includes details of a mission to Great Britain in the 1870s, and some entries on the topic of polygamy. Includes transcriptions of several letters to and from John. At the of the volume is a list of funerals at which he spoke, high priests he ordained, and an index. Dated 1856-1885.
